Challenge
Tengizchevroil (TCO), a consortium of Chevron, ExxonMobil, KazMunayGas, and LukArco, required a self-sustaining and rapidly deployable CCTV monitoring system for their oilfields in Tengiz, Kazakhstan.
The key challenges were poor telecommunications coverage, extreme weather conditions, and disconnected construction areas.
Solutions
The Solar IP CCTV System (SICS) was developed in collaboration with TCO and Fluor to overcome the challenges faced in remote and corrosive environments with extreme weather conditions.
Solutions
The patent-pending system is completely self-sustaining and standalone, easily transportable and rapidly deployed, and delivers wireless surveillance in high definition to local monitoring centers.
The SICS uses a 500w combination of ruggedized solar panels, custom-engineered for optimum solar angles in a range of global locations, and a proprietary harsh environment battery system that can withstand deep cycling along with extremely high and low temperatures.
The SICS is fitted with a system controller that enables real-time monitoring of all aspects of the system, including solar and battery performance, and a GPS location alert on system threats across the TCO Canopy wireless network.
Results
58 Solar IP CCTV Systems were delivered to TCO, and they have been fully operational, providing surveillance and wireless telecommunications to remote areas and vulnerable locations. The SICS has won Project of the Year at the IFSEC Global Fire & Security Awards 2017, and the project has received accolades from the Chartered Institute of Highways & Transportation and the British Excellence Engineering Awards.
The SICS continues to support TCO as the systems are transferred to other deployments in Tengiz, and the company is working closely with them to develop permanent solar surveillance and telecommunications solutions.
