The RAFT System
Embrace sustainable energy solutions with the Remote Autonomous Frontier Technology (RAFT) System, a solar-powered generator built to deliver continuous, reliable power in the world’s harshest off-grid environments. Engineered to support critical infrastructure, the RAFT integrates a high-performance solar array with intelligent power and control systems, housed in a thermally insulated cabinet built from 316L stainless steel.
All operational components, including the Internal Control and Power Management System (ICPMS), are secured within a single, IP-rated cabinet—optimised for resistance to dust, moisture, and corrosion. The RAFT operates flawlessly in ambient temperatures from -40°C to +50°C, with a 48V deep-cycle AGM battery system (214-428Ah) that stores and delivers power as needed to ensure uninterrupted functionality.
A robust telescopic mast allows for the mounting of surveillance cameras, IoT devices, and antennas for seamless communications and data collection. For higher power demands, the system is compatible with WJ Sunstone’s QuickGrid solar array, allowing you to scale up capacity without major infrastructure investment. The RAFT is EMC compliant, EAC certified, and constructed to Eurocodes and British Engineering Standards, ensuring long-term durability and operational reliability. ATEX-Compliant options are available on request for deployment in hazardous environments.

Challenge: Maintaining continuous power for critical infrastructure like pipelines, environmental monitoring stations, and security networks in remote, off-grid locations can be a constant struggle.
Solution: The RAFT System offers a reliable solar-powered energy solution for:
- Oil Pipeline Monitoring: Ensure the safety and compliance of your pipeline operations with continuous power for essential IoT sensors.
- Remote Wildlife Monitoring: Support conservation efforts and research projects with a clean and sustainable power source for remote monitoring devices.
- Uninterrupted Border Surveillance: Maintain constant vigilance and protect critical security infrastructure with reliable power for border surveillance systems.
- 24/7 Security for Mining Sites: Power remote cameras, smart analytics, and monitoring systems without reliance on diesel generators, to ensure continuous operation of monitoring and security systems in remote mining locations.
Solar-powered systems use solar panels to generate energy, ensuring continuous operation of communication equipment in remote or off-grid areas. The energy generated by the solar panels during the day are stored in the system batteries and then discharged to support the power needs of the attached sensors and telecommunications system. The camera sensors then supply the surveillance feed to our telecommunications device, which then relays the footage and alerts to the cloud for monitoring.
Our technologies reduce operational costs, minimise your carbon footprint and provide reliable operation in remote locations without grid dependency. This means that our technologies can be deployed quickly to where they are needed and for the duration required. Once the operational requirement is complete, then the systems can be either moved or decommissioned, making further savings against conventional hardwired systems.
Yes, even on cloudy days our systems will still capture irradiance, however this may not be at the same level as unimpeded irradiance. Our systems are designed to operate for extended periods during cloudy conditions and poor irradiance. In addition, each day we monitor power generation and consumption, to ensure uptime all year round.
Depending on the system, they are deployed onto level ground or concrete pad using our deployment trailer or HIAB and faced south, to maximise the generation of power from the sun. It is important to note that shading on the solar panels can have a detrimental effect on the capability to generate power, so we carefully deploy these systems to avoid any shading.
Yes, our systems can work seamlessly with existing security infrastructure. As our cameras and telecommunications systems are IP digital devices, we can integrate the cameras onto your existing Video Management Software (VMS) platform, which enables operators to remotely view and control the system.
Maintenance involves periodic cleaning of solar panels, checking battery health and ensuring the system is functioning properly. In addition, with agreement we can remotely monitor the system and assess performance, if required then we can deploy our maintenance team to support with these duties to ensure optimal performance.
We assess your location, power requirements and specific needs to recommend the best solution for your operational requirements. We do not believe in a one-size-fits-all all model, and your requirement may require specific camera technologies (i.e. PTZ, Bullet, Thermal Imaging etc) and telecommunication methods to where the footage is being monitored. We will work closely with you to ensure the solution is appropriately specified for your requirements and budget.
